The Joiner's shop


Back in 1999, we dismantled a shed at Rolleston sewage works with the intention of rebuilding it on 'E' pumphouse base. This was going to house our increasing collection of engines that were returning from their holidays at other locations. A story about the dismantling
We quickly realised that it wasn't going to be big enough and decided to use the shed to recreate the joiner's shop, which had been demolished. This would give us working space in which we could then recreate the original 'E' pump house.
Planning permission was sought and obtained - the Joiner's shop was born.

The first task was to remove a tree root from the corner of the site...

The foundations were dug out & the hardcore base was levelled...

By late evening the roof was on...

Nightshift

Within a couple of weeks we had laid on electricity. The outer roof covering was delayed by bad weather, but it is now watertight. The inside was lined with insulation, retained by hardboard and plywood. The whole inside was then painted, giving a bright and spacious feeling. The benches and machines that we were storing elsewhere on site were moved in. Our collection of old woodworking tools then started growing and growing...
